Qatar’s emir urged President Donald Trump to continue diplomatic talks over the war with Iran in a Friday phone call, the Financial Times reported, citing Qatar’s state news agency.
The call followed a senior Iranian official’s statement to Reuters on Thursday that Tehran had sent Washington a nuclear proposal through Qatar. The official’s account describes an offer. Neither that report nor the Qatari account of Friday’s call announced an agreement.
Commercial shipping remains at issue. Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said Thursday that Iran had tied reopening the Strait of Hormuz to conditions it had presented to the United States, according to Reuters.
