Georgia election officials reported that more than 188,600 people voted in person on Tuesday, October 13, setting a first-day early-voting record for a midterm election, according to figures released October 14 by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office.

The agency reported 188,667 in-person early ballots, compared with 134,962 on the opening day of early voting for the 2022 midterms, an increase of roughly 40 percent. The state separately reported that 10,267 absentee ballots had been accepted. These counts reflect early participation, not final turnout or the outcome of any contest.

The Secretary of State’s office administers statewide election oversight, while Georgia’s 159 counties operate voting locations and schedules. Raffensperger said the initial turnout reflected confidence in the election system; that is his assessment, not a conclusion that can be established from one day’s participation figures.

Information for Georgia voters

Georgia’s advance in-person voting period for the November 3 general election runs October 13–30, including two Saturdays. County election offices can offer Sunday voting as well. Eligible voters may use an early-voting site within their county rather than only their assigned Election Day precinct; voters should check local schedules before traveling. A government-issued photo ID is required for in-person voting, subject to applicable rules on acceptable forms of identification.

The state’s official My Voter Page provides registration information, sample ballots and polling locations. The Secretary of State’s election data hub provides updated participation figures that may differ from the initial release as counties continue reporting.
