Schools in Fannin County, Georgia, remained closed Friday after flooding along the Tennessee border forced dozens of rescues. In neighboring Gilmer County, students returned to class, WSB reported Friday morning.
More than 50 people were rescued by boat in Fannin County after storms sent the Toccoa River to about 18 feet, according to WSB. The Associated Press reported that floodwater reached the roofs of some buildings in the border communities.
The different school schedules show how sharply the effects varied across neighboring counties. Friday’s closure applies to Fannin County; families should look to their own district for the next school-day announcement.
